Meet our staff

Michael, proprietor of Belfast and Newry stores, runs with North Down AC and helped founded the ever growing Up & Runners. 2011 has seen Michael run the Belfast City marathon as part of BBC tv's Going The Distance programme. The year has also seen debuts in triathlon and in the inaugural Gaelforce North Adventure race in Donegal.

Sharon, Michael's wife and business partner extraordinaire! Sharon keeps things ticking along nicely, often behind the scenes, while also organising and managing their three boys' busy social and sporting schedules. On top of all of that, Sharon ran her first half marathon in Dublin 2010 and 2 Runhers followed up with Lisburn half in 2011. Runher 9.10.11 beckons.

Des, our only truly retired runner, Des has successfully completed a few marathons in his day, including Belfast twice, now he keeps fit on the golf course.

Brian, our main man, loved and known by all. Big fan of the Hill & Dale series, East Down AC runner, has ran all the major marathons around the world and topped them all with a brillant 2011 debut at South Africa's ultimate double marathon - Comrades ultra marathon.

Andrew, our in-store triathlete, is regularly training in the pool at ridiculous o'clock and cycling across the country at weekends, never mind all the running in between. Such diverse extra-curricular activities as his recent charity cycle relay around the entire coastline of NI in under 24hrs make him an interesting chap to chat to!

Conor, one of those runners who seems to be able to produce the goods regardless of how much training he has actually done (think that's called talent!). But he does usually put in the miles, using his commute home from work as his main daily effort, regardless of the conditions outside.

Carla, aspiring journalist student and athlete when she puts her mind (or legs!) to it. Carla makes the weekly trip to Coleraine for her studies and seems to thoroughly enjoy the 'craic' of student life. She is one of several Lagan Valley AC members who work /have worked in store.

Lynsey, Lagan Valley thrower and UUJ Sports Science student, keeps busy when not working/training/studying getting involved in coaching junior athletics.

Ryan, another of our University of Ulster crew, Ryan has competed with some distinction on track & country, both for his university team and the famous St. Malachy's club.

Stephen, also competes for St. Malachy's and University of Ulster, where he is also getting an education. As well as competing on track and cross country, Steve recently took his chances with the 6 miles on the road, not unsuccessfully, even if he did actually stop for a few seconds before deciding to 'get 'er done'!

Eoin, another St. Malachy's lad, who's been quiet on the racing scene recently but sure to make a speedy return sometime soon. A thorough gait analyst, it could be said that Eoin will not be rushed in his work.

Catriona spends time in both NI stores trying to help keep things running smoothly. Another proud LaganV alley runner who has also been a bit quiet on the racing front recently but hoping to get back into the swing of it in the not too distant future, if only could string together a few days decent training in a row.

Gait Analysis

It's important that your running shoes fit correctly: our trained staff can help find the right shoes for you: in a short session on our treadmill they can do a video gait analysis using sophisticated Dartfish software.

Find out more about gait analysis at UP & RUNNING.

NB if you would like to enjoy the full benefits of our gait analysis system and shoe-fitting service, please arrive at least half an hour before shop closing time.

Thanks!
