Lisa has competed in many local events including the Parish Walk, End to End Walk, Syd Quirk half marathon. Her current passion is off road running and competes in as many local fell runs as time allows, including the Manx Mountain Marathon. She completed off Island this year for the first time doing the extremely wet and muddy Coniston Trail Marathon. Her favourite run is anything off road.

Chris is a member of Manx Harriers, his favourite run is the Coastal Trail Run to the Calf Sound, and his favourite training walk is The Baldwin Loop and Injerbreck Reservoir up to Druidale. He has completed the Dublin Marathon twice with a PB of 3h22, completed Parish Walk 8 times (PB 17hrs 38), Centurion 100 mile walk in 23hrs 22, the End to End Walk 7 times with a PB of 7h13, and completed the Manx Mountain Marathon for the first time in 2010. There have been plenty of 10ks, 20ks, half marathons and the odd 50k thrown in for good measure too. "I really enjoy the sporting scene on the Island and really appreciate those people who help to make it the way it is."

Keith has been a competitive runner on cross country, track and road since the age of 16, and has represented Great Britain at Junior, U23 and Senior level in the World and European Championships. His main events include anything from 1500m up to 10k and Cross Country, although he is looking to step up to a half, and full marathon, in the near future. He first started out running local road and Cross Country races on the IOM, before heading off to University at St Marys College (2005-2009), and University of New Mexico (2009-2011). There he improved massively, and now he has finished at University he is looking to take my running to the next level again! Keith's Personal Best times currently stand at: 10,000m 28.27.0; 5000m 13.58.3 and 1500m 3.47.5

Charlie's speciality is 100m's chasing a ball. Then falling asleep :-)

Informed opinion from our knowledgable staff and key customers ...

Hilly Mono Off Road Sock

I found the socks are a delight to wear as they are a good weight for off road running and fit well with no noticeable problems with rough seams. Importantly they were thick enough to block the intrusion of gorse thorns to feet and ankles. This is just as well given the questionable lines I took off Greeba at the end of Greeba Fell Race.
In Baldwin Valleys Fell Race the Hillys water holding ability was rigorously tested. They were thoroughly soaked. It was noticeable that the Hillys retained some water but never felt soggy or made any noticeable squishing noise.
Overall I find them a comfortable and well weighted choice for the off-road stuff.

For Goodness Shakes

I’m not an athlete by any measure. Triathlons and Cycling are my passion and I try train when I get a gap. I typically work long hours, travel a lot and have a young family (three children at primary school) that I like to spend as much time as I can with. So, when I used to train (usually early mornings) I used to flag badly around 4pm and after three days training in a row I used to feel flat. Since using FGS I’ve found that I’m not flagging in the afternoon or feel flat on day three. I’ve been using it for about 2 years and it’s and outstanding product in my opinion.

High 5 Zero

Until recently I've been a bit of a purist when it comes to hydration, water and only water. It’s not for want of trying; I've tried a number of different sports drinks and always quickly reverted back to straight water. I generally find sports drinks to be too sweet and sugary, or of a more medicinal flavour rather than pleasant, leaving me feeling nauseous, more of a hindrance than a help.
So after chatting to Lisa, I decided to give the Zero citrus a try, I’m loving it! I can't offer anything in support of their fat burning claims but on a hydration level it works brilliantly. They have the flavour spot on for me, it's not overpowering or sweet, it's gently refreshing and a little more interesting than straight H2O. As a zero carb and zero sugar drink, it allows control over any food or gel supplement you might choose to use.
The drink comes in tablet form which is dissolved directly into your water bottle, so they are convenient, and mess free. You can tailor the strength of the drink by using more or less of the large, easy to break tablet I've been on the Zero Citrus for over 8 weeks now and haven't done a training session without it.

High 5 Bars

Ok so my official marathon training starts on Boxing Day, exactly 16 wks until the big one! In preparation for my training it is vital that I consume the right foods to fuel my body to give my best performance.
I have been asked by Lisa & Chris to give my views on the new High5 bars which are now in stock @ ‘Up & Running’.
I hadn’t heard of High5 until I saw them in the shop but now having tried them I’m extremely impressed. It’s not often that you find a range where all the flavours are as good as the next so this was an added bonus! Lisa did tell me before I tried them that these weren’t packed with the usual rubbish that you often find in other brands - she was right, they tasted very natural & extremely nutritious. They were also low in fat with not too many calories!
There are 3 types of bars to choose from, Energy, Sports & Protein. These come in a range of different flavours which include Berry, Double Choc, Banana & Banana/Vanilla.
As I have now sampled all 5 bars & CAN say that YES, I love them all. My favourite was the Berry Sports Bar as this had a gorgeous yoghurt coating & was slightly chewy - I liked this as it made it last longer!
Value for money is 5*****, a lot cheaper than others I would normally buy!
Anyone in need of a little fix then get yourself down to ‘Up & Running’....
