Meet our staff

Paul the Store Manager, brings his extensive experience in running to the shop - he has represented Wales internationally on the mountains, but competes regularly in road & cross country events around Europe and has tried his hand at most distances from 5k to mountain marathons over his 8 years of running. His most notable performance of last year comes from the Geneva Marathon which saw Paul come home in 18th overall. He finished off the year by being ranked in the top 10 of the UK for the marathon distance in his age category.  His main events for this year are London Marathon in April and the Marathon Du Mont Blanc in July. He is also a qualified UKA Level 2 Endurance coach, and is always happy to pass on his knowledge and experiences to anyone who wants to listen!

Andrew is a nurse in a local college hospital, however 4 years ago decided he was getting too old and needed a fresh challenge so started running. He came into the shop one day and went out with a part time job. His running consists of mainly trail and road up to 250 miles a month.

Julie is our newest member of the team. She enjoys running recreationally rather then the racing side of it all, and is often out doing a few miles on the roads to keep fit and in shape. Her main goal for this year is to improve on the fells, combining improving her fitness with enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Lake District. Julie is keen to try and test all the kit in store to gain more experience of each brand, to help individual customers in their next choice of shoes and kit.

Informed opinion from our knowledgable staff and key customers ...

Laser Photon Tent

If your looking for a very lightweight 1 person (2 person at a squeeze) tent to carry in your rucksack for hours, this is perfect. With a packed weight of 0.72kg and size of 35x10cm it won’t take up much room. Weight is kept down by lightweight poles made of alloy and pegs out of titanium. There have been great updates since last season’s version of this tent (Laser Photon Elite), most noticeable it has a smaller pack size, extra venting and 4 additional guy points to increase pitch stability.

Skins A400 Long Tight

The Skins A400 long tight is my ultimate choice in leg wear because they have a super comfortable fit and they are designed to uniquely wrap and support key muscle groups to reduce vibration and soft tissue damage, which is great for long events or multi-day events. Permanent antimicrobial treatment discourages bacteria, which is built into the fabric and makes the garment odour free. As with most running garments it has great moisture management to keep skin dry and comfortable with its wicking fabric. My favourite feature of these tights is the new memory MX which contains a unique high stretch yarn that makes the tights return to their original shape no matter how much stress you put them under, not like the older Skins Sport.

Salomon Speedcross

The Salomon Speedcross has been a long term favourite for me personally due to its great overall performance and features. This shoe is amazingly comfortable and ultra light. It has a very aggressive tread for great grip on soft, slippy, muddy terrain (ideal for the Lakes where we have very mixed weather all year round). I think the dual density EVA midsole is a major contribution to its great feel underfoot and as with most Salomon’s the Sensifit technology works to cradle the foot providing a precise and secure fit all round. Another great feature is the Quicklace system, very reliable and easy to use and adjust for all type of runners.

OMM Last Drop 10l

This bag is fantastic! It's the slimmest profile and lightest pack out of the OMM range. You won't even know it's on your back! With chest (which includes safety whistle) and waist strap to stop all movement, it weighs in at 350 grams. It comes with great features for running, biking, skiing, travel or just a weekend away.
This great bag consists of a main compartment, and top pocket to fit every runner's needs. Bladder compatible, and 2 side mess pockets for extra bottle etc …

Asics DS Racer

Looking for a lightweight performance shoe? The new DS Racer has come a long was since the last model, including their new Solyte midsole technology what makes the shoes lighter, but also has enhanced cushioning and durability of the shoe that feels GREAT! This racer comes with rearfoot gel which allows a smooth transition to the DuoMax support in the midsole what then supports your feet right through to the toe-off stage. I have used the shoe in several races to date and have always been pleased with its performance, from 5k's to the marathon distances. Its open mesh upper provides excellent comfort and breathability for a good long lasting comfortable ride. Well recommended road racing shoe.

Salomon XT Wings

The XT Wings are among the most advanced shoes on the market, in my opinion. With breathable nylon mesh uppers featuring Sensifit™ synthetic leather overlays to secure insteps and lock heels in place, they feel great, while the Agile Chassis Skeleton supports your arches and provides a stable platform for rocky and rough terrain, reducing foot fatigue and chances of a rolled ankle. And the Kevlar® Quickfit™ lacing system takes just one pull for a precise fit, the lace pocket hiding laces away. Weighing only 390g this shoe is ideal as a good solid training shoe but also for your longer off-road races.
