Alan has been involved with running for 23 years and has been a member of Orpington Road Runners for over 15 years. He has competed in many events from 10K to marathon and has recorded a personal best of 3:31 for the London Marathon. His favourite race is the Hastings Half Marathon which is a testing but well supported event. He has 2 school age sons, both keen runners and members of Blackheath and Bromley AC

Darrell Smith Involved in athletics from the age of 14 I competed in the 1986 World Junior cross country championships placing 64th and was 2nd in the Junior mens National and Intercounties the same year. Later that year I was offered a athletic scholarship to Iowa State University and whilst there placed 8th in the 1989 US Cross Country champs and 7th at NCAA Indoors at 3000m. Graduating in 1991 I returned to England and placed 8th in the 1992 AAAs/ Barcelona Olympic Trials and ran 13.58 for 5000m that same year.In 1994 I was 18th in the UK Cross Country Champs and 19th in the National. My best times were 8.00.02 3000m, 13.58.67 5000m, 23.30 for 5 miles 29.49 for 10k and 67.34 for a half. I still run and seem to be holding the line at about 34 mins for 10K. I began coaching in 2008, first at Sevenoaks AC and now Tonbridge AC.

I'm a qualified Personal trainer www.run4fit.com with one to one clients made up of runners and people looking to improve their fitness. As well as working at UP&RUNNING I also coach cross country at the local Sevenoaks School.

It's important that your running shoes fit correctly: our trained staff can help find the right shoes for you: in a short session on our treadmill they can do a video gait analysis using sophisticated Dartfish software.
