Mike opened the Horsham running shop in 2003. A member of Horsham Joggers for over 20 years he has completed a number of both road & off-road marathon events. These days however, with less training time available, it's more a case of `shorter' distance 10K road running with a preference for off-road, which includes nightime headtorch running in the winter months. In store, Mike, Jackie, and Pete aim to set the bar high for customer service by providing advice and guidance to both new and regular runners and gym users, for all of their footwear and clothing requirements. In addition, the store serves as a meeting place & information point for all training related issues.

Local RunsOne of Mike's local favourite runs is St. Leonards Forest ... From the shop, head away from town along the Brighton Road turning left into St Leonards Road (by the pub). Continue until reaching Hammerpond Road and turn right (there is no pavement at this point so ensure you are running on the correct side of the road (i.e. towards oncoming traffic) as it is narrow and twisty in places. This road lives up to its reputation as being the local `switchback' however when you reach the Roosthole Car Park on your left, turn into it. Before turning left again into the car park itself, turn right and follow the track which will take you into St Leonards Forest and the start of what is locally known as Mick Miles Race. Local legend has it that Mick Mills (or Miles), a famous smuggler, met the Devil besides an old oak tree. The two raced for each others souls and such was their speed that the trees were set ablaze. Mick won and kept his soul but since that time no tree has grown on the path of their legendary contest. Follow this track (1.5 miles approx) until you almost reach the barrier across it and turn right following the path down towards the bottom of the forest. Follow the lower paths all the way around until you eventually come full circle rom where you started i.e. the beginning of Mick Miles Race. Take the path (back down this time) to the Roosthole Car Park and retrace your footsteps, returning to the shop in Queen Street. Another favorite is the "South Downs & Mid-Downs Link" - ask about both them in the shop. Or if you've got your own local favorite run, why not share it with others in our Horsham shop forum.
