Up & Running is a specialist running retailer and we're pleased to bring our selection of top brands in running shoes, running clothing, and accessories to Keswick in the Lake District. As in all our shops, experienced staff can advise you on the right choice of running shoe, with digital gait analysis using Dartfish software.

Paul, the Store Manager, brings his extensive experience in running to the shop - he has represented Wales on the mountains on several occasions, and competes regularly in road & cross country events around the country. With racing experience in several countries such as France, Germany, Greece, Holland and Italy, he has tried his hand at most distances but feels truly at home on the mountains with some of his favourite races being the Snowdon 10 miler and the Lakeland Trail series. With the wealth of knowledge he has acquired over his last 6 years of running he is happy to help with all your running needs.

Sam - having not done any exercise for two years, Sam vowed that as soon as he finished his A-Levels he would go running. One year later and Sam is entering his first 10k and is even thinking about starting some trail running now he has conquered the fear of running up the fells.

Andrew is a nurse in a local college hospital, however 4 years ago decided he was getting too old and needed a fresh challenge so started running. Now he's am up to Olympic standard in mind but unfortunately his body will not agree with this! He came into the shop one day and went out with a part time job. His running consists of mainly trail and road up to 250 mile a month, but the fells on the other hand ....

Running shoes with the right cushioning and support for you will make training and racing easier.
Take the guesswork out of buying your next pair - a few minutes on the treadmill and the help of our knowledgable staff is all it takes. (Please bring along your current running shoes for comparison.)

OMM Last Drop 10L

Review by Paul ... This bag is fantastic! It's the slimmest profile and lightest pack out of the OMM range. You won't even know it's on your back! With chest (which includes safety whistle) and waist strap to stop all movement, it weighs in at 350 grams. It comes with great features for running, biking, skiing, travel or just a weekend away.
This great bag consists of a main compartment, and top pocket to fit every runner's needs. Bladder compatible, and 2 side mess pockets for extra bottle etc ...

SALOMON XT WINGS

Review by Paul ... The XT Wings are among the most advanced shoes on the market, in my opinion. With breathable nylon mesh uppers featuring Sensifit™ synthetic leather overlays to secure insteps and lock heels in place, they feel great, while the Agile Chassis Skeleton supports your arches and provides a stable platform for rocky and rough terrain, reducing foot fatigue and chances of a rolled ankle. And the Kevlar® Quickfit™ lacing system takes just one pull for a precise fit, the lace pocket hiding laces away. Weighing only 390g this shoe is ideal as a good solid training shoe but also for your longer off-road races.

Garmin Forerunner: 305 or 405?

Review by Paul ... The two biggest differences between these are the 405's innovative touch bezel and wireless data transfer. The touch-sensitive bezel controls the bulk of the functions while making the 405 look more like an everyday watch. The wireless transfer is easy to use when sharing data unit-to-unit, and any new data automatically downloads when you're within range of your PC's ANT receiver.
Available in a multi-sport bundle that maximizes its potential for duathletes and triathletes, the Forerunner 305's power, versatility and reliability have made it a must-have training tool. So it's hard to go wrong.
In my opinion having used both models, I do find the 405 that little bit better and even simpler in some aspects with the touch bezel. It's as easy as touch and go! No calibration required. Just turn it on.
But the 305 still comes in with the above advantages, apart from the share wirelessly spec. You can still transfer your runs and data to a PC but just using a USB cable. With the 305 coming with the larger screen of the two it does take some people's eye that little more, easier to see and clearer some people would say.
Ratings in my opinion out of ten:
Forerunner 405 : 9/10*
Forerunner 305 : 7/10

ASICS DS RACER 8

Review by Paul ... Looking for a lightweight performance shoe? The new DS Racer has come a long was since the last model, including their new Solyte midsole technology what makes the shoes lighter, but also has enhanced cushioning and durability of the shoe that feels GREAT! This racer comes with rearfoot gel which allows a smooth transition to the DuoMax support in the midsole what then supports your feet right through to the toe-off stage. I have used the shoe in several races to date and have always been pleased with its performance, from 5k's to the marathon distances. Its open mesh upper provides excellent comfort and breathability for a good long lasting comfortable ride. Well recommended road racing shoe.
