In-store Events
Out & AboutThe Candlelighters Fun Run had around 350 people running mainly 18's and under with parents, friends and family joining in, a real mixture. There were bouncy castles (ace!!), old police cars, fire brigade, parents five a-side football, of course the race, and plenty of food and drink!! All proceeds of the race went to the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation charity.
Our staff are testing kit all the time - check out their reviews below, and of course there's always expert advice available in store ... Mizuno Wave Idaten - review by DanSuper lightweight racing flat. I do all my track training in them and barely notice they are on my feet! The midsole is really responsive, the upper offers superb breathability and comfort, and the heel and forefoot offer a remarkable amount of cushioning and durability for a racing flat. Nike Air Span - review by SamI took my first pair for a road trip on a wet and cold morning: my thoughts were a nicely cushioned shoe, lightweight and supported, with a great toebox. Brooks Glycerin – review by SiânA high cushioned neutral shoe with a soft heel that is very responsive. Fits well across the laces and it widens at the front to give plenty of room for your toes and feet to expand during exercise. Can be used for high mileage runs due to its effective 'Mogo' cushioning. The Glycerin always comes in a nice colour scheme, however, is slightly bulkier than other shoes across the range. Garmin Forerunner 205 – review by SiânIf you need motivation while running here is your new best friend. The Garmin 205 is a GPS unit which allows you to measure both the time and distance you run. There are many features on this watch for you to use. You can time every mile with the watch beeping and displaying the time for that mile. This allows you to keep an eye on your pace whilst running to achieve a P.B. or just simply keep a constant pace. You can also set a pace with the 'virtual partner' setting which beeps and displays either 'slow down' or 'speed up' to allow you to keep at a certain pace. After your run you can look back to record your time, distance and calories burnt. The only disadvantage is the large size of the watch, but you get used to it farily quickly. NRG Breeze Vest – review by SiânA very light comfortable vest that fits well and is long enough to fit a taller frame. Wicks away sweat very efficiently without leaving an odour like most technical fabric. I find it very soft on the skin and it's made from a nice stretchy material. Comes in two feminine colours – pink and baby blue. Skins Capri Tights – review by SiânA very technical pair of capri tights that have a lot more advantages than your ordinary capri's. They consist of a tight compression fabric that is sleek and very comfortable. The Skins work by allowing you to exercise for longer as they keep your muscles working allowing oxygen to oxidise any lactic acid. I find my tights work well on speed and hill sessions, but not quite so good on longer runs, although I still wear them as they are very comfortable. Skins have other technical advantages such as skin temp, which optimises body tempertaure, and skin fresh, which is an antibacterial treatment which prevents odour. OMM Kamleika Smock – review by IanA really lightweight fully waterproof top that should be a must for any fell runner or mountain marathon competitor. This top weighs in at just 200g, but passes all kit checks by being waterproof with taped seams. It also comes with a roll-away hood which can be rolled up without having to take it off. The stretchy Gelanots fabric means that you don't lose any flexibility, a ¾ length zip so to give you a bit of aeration when necessary, and the thumb holes in the cuffs give your hands a little bit extra protection from the elements. There is also a handy pocket on the inside where you can store all your energy products. There is a jacket also available, which has a few more pockets and comes in at 300g. Both tops are fully reflective. Inov8 Mudclaw 270 – review by IanA superbly grippy lightweight fell shoe that has saved my bacon on a number of occasions. It's off-centre lacing and rounded heel make for a great shoe when traversing slopes, and the weight of the shoe means climbing is never an issue. But the Mudclaw's really come into their own when descending. The grippy nature of the soles mean you can just let fly on any terrain knowing that you will stay upright, be it grass, mud or rock. For a slightly tougher shoe try the Mudclaw 330, which stands up to a bit more of a beating allowing you to cross rough moors and thrash through undergrowth with a bit more ease. I'd stay away from the evil tarmac in these though, the soles will wear down fairly quickly.
