Rob is a keen runner and enjoys taking part in half marathons and muddy off-road events. He started running again a year ago. After growing several sizes due to a sedentry lifestyle and a stressful high pressured job, he decided to get his running shoes back on and get back in shape. He went from a 38 - 40 inch waist, weighing in at over 15 stone, to a 34 inch waist, and is now a healthy 12 stone. Running event favourites so far are Nottingham Robin Hood Half Marathon, Mansfield Half Marathon and the White Peak Half. 'Race The Train' in Wales and the Dovedale Dash are his off road faves. Rob has also completed the Royal Marines Commando Challenge based in Exeter, an event he is planning to complete again this year.
Rob recently acheived a PB of 1hr 35 for a half. Marathon training starts for September.
Rob also enjoys Karate, Rock-Climbing, Biking, Skating and keeping fit in general. As such he can help with stretches, and training tips. Music is a big part of Rob's life, so expect some good tunes when you come in the store.
Having worked previously for large blue chip multi-national sports company and also smaller family run businesses, Rob has gained a wealth of valuable experience in technical footwear, gait analysis and shoe fitting. Taking pride in assisting customers choose the correct technical footwear, clothing or accessories for their sport.
Glyn is a part-time sales assistant, which leaves him plenty of time for running! He started competing as a triathlete and although he still cycles and swims regularly, Glyn's true love is running.
He has competed in many long distance events, with PBs of 34:30 (10k), 1hr 20 (half marathon), and 3hr 13 (full marathon). In addition to road running, Glyn has competed in the Birmingham cross-country league, Tough Guy and managed to beat the train in the famous off-road event in Wales. However, he's decided to take things to a new level and is training for an ultra marathon - although he will be doing the Robin Hood half marathon as a warm-up!

David Watson ran in The Beast, a tough race supported by UP & RUNNING. See the great race video below ...
I spent a long time trying on various different makes and models before going for the 'Ride". It was a tough decision as there are so many nice shoes in the store. In the end, as the 'Ride' was so comfortable, I went for this one.
In my training sessions, they felt so much better. Using them now as my main training shoe on my 4, 8 and 10 mile runs, both on the pavements and through the woodlands.
I must admit, they feel really nice and cushioned. You can really feel the Progrid cushioning system absorb the impact as the foot strikes the ground. The extra forefoot cushioning really works too. I hope they can help me beat a few personal bests this year.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants a well-cushioned neutral running shoe. Rob, June 2009
NRG base layer, £24
Looks cool and feels really nice to the skin. Works great in regulating your body temperature. Great at wicking the moisture away.
I've been using these to keep the cold wind from my skin during the cols snaps. They work a treat. I also like the fact that they come in little carry bag made from the 'waste' produced when making the base layer.
I'll be getting more of these over the next few weeks. You might even see me wearing one in the store.
Highly recommended.
Comes in black, red or blue for men. Women's colour options are black, pink, or blue. Rob, June 2009
Salomon XA Pro, £75
A trail shoe with some excellent cushioning.
After signing up for the "Race the Train" event in Wales, I realised that I needed to start doing some off-road training in preparation #, also that I needed the right footwear for the Welsh countryside.
First impressions with the XO pro were very good. A glove-like fit to them and a well cushioned midsole. After a few runs around my local wood, and putting them through their paces on some rough terrain, I knew that these shoes could give me the traction, support and comfort I needed for the most difficult challenge to date.
The XA Pro's held up really well in the event. The conditions were very muddy and very, very wet. In a lesser shoe, I would have been slipping around, but in these, I felt confident and protected from the harsh conditions.
Also, they clean up really well, and look good enough to wear socially.
Highly recommended. Rob, June 2009
NRG Board Shirt, £35
Essential bit of kit for this time of year. Feels really nice next to your skin. Nice fitted feel to it. Just the right amount of room to allow freedom of movement. This particular t-shirt has aerated, vented side panels which allow the heat and perspiration to 'wick away'. The zip is a nice feature which allows you to get more air in if its too hot.
Available in blue and red. Rob, June 2009
Skins Half Tight
The Skins range has been designed specifically as compression garments to improve sporting performance. Research studies suggest it can have the following effects: Increase venous return, reduce post exercise muscle soreness, remove lactic acid faster and regulate body temperature - to name a few of the potential scientific benefits.
Skins are sized specifically depending on your waist measurement (waist/height ratio for the long tight). First impressions are good. The fabric feels smooth, soft and cool to the touch. The length is ideal as they fit right to the top of the knee, covering the quadriceps and hamstrings completely. The great thing with these is they can be worn on their own or with another garment (under shorts in summer, under long tights in winter).
My first test using them was on a 36 mile off road bike ride on an old mountain bike without inbuilt suspension! Now that would be a test. On similar rides I normally would feel some delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) especially in the quads. After this race one of the few places that wasn't aching excessively was the upper leg muscles. The compressed fit seemed to reduce muscle vibration and tearing, and this benefited recovery in the days following, which also suggests lactic acid build up had been removed more efficiently. Since then they have become a constant fixture for my endurance training both for running and cycling.
A great product to assist performance and reduce muscle fatigue. Suitable for endurance athletes in a variety of sports. David, January 2008

OMM 25L Pack
"Having never run with a specific lght weight pack before, I found the OMM 25L to be just what i was looking for. With a lean weight of just over 500g
and a capacity of 25l, this pack is ideal for 'a day away', whether it is running/cycling to work or walking in the hills. It is the attention to detail
that makes this pack great. The back padding doubles as a sit mat and the chest strap doubles as an emergency whistle (hopefully never needed!).
This pack sits very securely having both chest and waist straps, as you would expect, and the compression cords mean that whatever you are carrying sits
close to the body. Quick access to storage while on the move is not a problem either, with generous sized zip pockets on the waist strap as well as side mesh
pockets low enough to reach without much fuss, ideal for drinks, gels, phone etc. For those runnng longer distances there is the option of adding a hydration
bladder as all the necessary attachments are built in.
Overall, a pack that is light on weight but heavy on features. Brilliant" David, March 2007

Local Runs
One of our favourite runs is through Wilford, along the River to Trent Bridge then back along Wilford Lane and through
Compton Acres. Roughly 10k this route is lovely when the sun is shining.
The route starts under
Clifton bridge along the path to Wilford Village, through the Village, across the Bridge by The Ferry, turn right and along the
Trent. For a shorter run you can cross over the Suspension Bridge or for a bit more distance use Trent Bridge and go right
onto Wilford Lane. There are options coming back as you could use the path by the river or Wilford lane. The route finishes
back where you started.
