Informed opinion from our knowledgable staff and key customers ...

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11

I tested the shoe over concrete and tarmac, clocking up 40 miles from recovery runs and slow jogging, a 5 mile tempo run to an 18 mile long run and finally a brutal interval session in the park under the watchful eyes of my coach - no hiding places!
The midsole now has the DNA technology of the lighter weight shoe range that neutral runners have enjoyed for some time, but so far has been denied to us overpronators. It makes for a softer, smoother feel - something you'll notice and really appreciate on a longer run. Brooks have updated their 'Caterpilla' crash pad system - giving more gel and therefore more cushioning around the heel & forefoot. Particularly if you're a heavier runner like me (14 stone/90 kg), this is a great innovation that absorbs more shock and diverts more force away from the joints. By cutting more grooves and segmenting the mid and outer soles, the shoe gives you better flexibility, centering your foot during the whole running cycle which allows you to really drive off hard in those interval sessions.
The midsole still has the familiar dual density compound to prevent rolling but corresponding with it, Brooks have made some changes to the upper. On the medial side of the saddle there is now a panel of stronger and more flexible material. With a cleverly configured lacing system using tough stretching tabs to take up any slack, this all works together to pull the shoe on tighter thus giving superb arch support, stabilising the foot & preventing it from rolling over. Genius!
The heelcup has a tighter feel contributing to a really close, comfortable fit. The good quality well finished sock liner is a nice touch that adds to the soft feel & reduces the chance of any blisters. The Adrenaline GTS 11 has won over the folk at Runner's World who have awarded it 'Best update' in 2010 and it has won me over too! This shoe is out now & retails at £87 but it feels like it should be in with those top-end £105+ shoes. A really well cushioned shoe with excellent support, Adrenaline GTS 11 is second to none. Brooks have done it again.
